Work in Progress Wednesday 117

Hi everyone! Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!! Today I'm going to do a duel post, and I hope you don't mind. Not only do I have a new WIP, it has to do with a new Candy Skein colorway, the November '12 Sock colorway, Pumpkin Pie. I figured it made sense to put these two posts into one.

First off, I want to hear what great things everyone is doing for Halloween! My husband will (hopefully) be coming home early so we can pass out candy and watch scary movies in our new house. We might have a few friends over, too, which is going to be a blast! We don't know what to expect as far as Trick or Treaters go so we bought a LOT of candy. Everyone in the neighborhood decked out their house with decorations so I hope we get a lot!

Before I show you my WIP, I have to show you the yarn!

Thanksgiving in the US is one of my favorite times of year. By the end of November, it’s finally chilly where I live and family and friends find time to stop their busy schedules to spend the holiday together. As much as I love Thanksgiving dinner, to me it’s all about dessert. Each year, my husband and I make gluten free pumpkin pie from scratch (yes, we use real pie pumpkins AND make the crust from scratch) and I love making them as much as I love eating them.

That’s why I picked Pumpkin Pie as the November 2012 colorway! This awesome yarn is kettle dyed in three different layers of light beige, light copper brown and deep copper to give it a modeled look when knit/crocheted. It would be perfect for any project!

Colorway: Pumpkin Pie
Fiber content: 75% Merino Wool, 25% Nylon Superwash
Weight: Fingering Weight
Yardage: 465 yards
Unit Weight: 100 grams
Care: Machine wash/Tumble dry low
Price: $20
Available here now!

Okay, now that we got that out of the way, I can show you what I started with the colorway!

I decided to do 2x2 ribbed socks, since I have a lot of other projects on the go. This needs no thought and is a great project to work on while I'm waiting for the yarn to dye during the day. I'm making the pair for my husband, but SHHHhhhh he doesn't know! I'm going to carry the ribbing down into the instep. Isn't the colorway pretty knitted up!!?? I'm loving the modeled look so far!

That's it for me today! Please have a fun AND safe Halloween tonight!

FO Friday 110

I am SOOOO sorry! I scheduled to post this today, but I forgot to set the time for 12am!!!!!! It was schedule to post at 10:30pm, when I wrote it!

Hi everyone! Happy Friday. I don't have a FO this week unfortunately. :( I hope to next week if I get more time to knit. I do have some fun news though! Candy Skein is now on Facebook! Be sure to 'like' Candy Skein here to get updates, news, exclusive contests and more!! I'm really excited to finally being able to offer a fun and easy way to deliver Candy Skein news (well, other than the Ravelry group and this blog!)

Since I don't have a FO, I feel like I need to leave you with some kind of picture, so here is a sneak peak of my studio that I shared on Instagram and Facebook today! As mentioned, I'll be posting pictures of the before, after and in between pictures soon here on the blog! There is a lot more work to do to make it completely set, but I'm soo excited. As you read this (after 8am PT at least) I'll be dancing on the floors for the first time as I do a happy dance while moving in all my stuff to start working! Despite it not being 100% finished, it's kind of fitting I get to move into the space on FO Friday, isn't it??!! Let the dyeing begin!!!!!

Work in Progress Wednesday 116

Hi everyone!!! I hope you had a great weekend and are having an even greater week. I've been busy with electrians, plumbers and my family in town to help build out Candy Skein studios. I will have a bunch of pictures (which you can see on Instagram right now...username Candyskein) in a post coming up in the Life as an Indie Dyer series soon!

As a sneak peak, I thought I would share this picture, which is the outside of the studio. It's a separate bungalow on my new property, steps away from my laundry/mud room and master bedroom. A beautiful courtyard separates everything. It only shares one wall, which is the garage.

The inside was a little rough when we bought the house, but wait until you see it finished! Stay tuned for pictures of the whole process.

Now on to what you've been waiting for. As mentioned, I haven't had much time to knit recently, but I figured I'd share this picture with you anyway. :) This is the Quaker Ridge Shawlette and I'm using Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in Worn Denim. I've done the set up and two full repeats. For those wondering, I did end up ripping out the shawl and starting over because of that extra stitch. I wasn't very far along, and I think it would have always bugged me.

Work in Progress Wednesday 115

Hi everyone! I don't have any pictures of my projects as I haven't been knitting much, but I thought I would share pictures of the Vista Fiber Fiesta! I had a great time seeing everyone, as well as hanging out with a few of my friends from other companies who had booths!

This picture is from the second day in the morning (hence my purse still in the foreground), which is why there isn't too much stock left!

Here's the beautiful shawl patterns (knit by my friend Robin in Delicious lace and Delicious fingering and my socks that I had on display.

Here's the Yummy lace and Yummy Worsted

This is a bag from Slipped Stitch Studios that my husband bought for me!!! I love love love it so much! If you don't know Slipped Stitch Studios, check her out! I LOVE her project bags!

This is my most favorite thing I bought! It's an alpaca stuffed animal made from REAL alpaca fleece. I bought it at the Fiesta from an alpaca farm!

That's it for me today! I hope you have a great rest of the week!

FO Friday 108

Hi everyone! Thanks for understanding about Wednesday. Let me tell you, trying to post from my phone is a huge pain in the butt! As I type this, I'm on the phone setting up internet at the new place right now, so I should (hopefully) have it soon!

Unfortunately, due to getting ready for the Vista Fiber Fiesta and moving I haven't had much time to knit, so no FO from me today. I'll be posting pictures (as soon as I have internet) of the show from this weekend, but if you want to see them as I take them, you can check out my Instagram account (username: Candyskein). I'll be posting pictures all weekend. :)

Have a great weekend!

Work in Progress 114

Hi everyone! I'm actually posting this from my phone as I don't have Internet at the new home yet and forgot to take my computer when I was out today. Sorry for the shotty post and I promise that the FO Friday post will be back to normal. I can't get Mister Linky to work from my phone, so please just add your link in the comment section. Sorry for the inconvenience and I'll try to run to Starbucks in the morning to add pictures properly (this my first time using the Blogger iphone app) and the Mister Linky!

I've been working on the second Skyp sock in Candy Skein Yummy fingering in Witch's Brew. It's going good and I can't wait to finish the pair!

I started a new shawl in Tosh Sock in colorway Worn Denim. I haven't worked on it much and actually realized I have one too many stitches in one section. Would you rip it out and start over or when I'm done with this part of the pattern just decrease by one? It's not a huge deal but I'm torn.
What do you all think?

FO Friday 107

Happy Friday everyone! I'm sorry this is going to be really short but I lost track of the time (and day to be honest). It's almost midnight and I have to get up early to sign the paperwork on the house! I promise once we're settled and I have my own studio that this blog will get MUCH MUCH better, with more posts than WIPW and FO Friday.

As promised I finish the first sock of my Skype socks! I'll give more details when I finish the second, but plan to work on it during the Vista Fiber Fiesta, so I can't finish the second just yet. As you may remember, I'm using Candy Skein Yummy fingering in October '12 colorway, Witch's Brew. I want to thank everyone on Wednesday for such nice comments about the colorway!

I apologize for the picture, as it was taken with my phone in a semi-dark room on Wednesday night when I finished it.

I'm off to sleep, and think about the moving that is in my very near future! Have a great weekend everyone!

Work in Progress Wednesday 113

Happy hump day! This week is a crazy one, as I'm getting ready for the show and closing escrow soon! It's all about paperwork for the house, dyeing and re-skeining for the show and putting off packing the house we live in now. If you follow me on instagram (username is CandySkein if you're interested in following me!), you will have seen some fun pictures of my lovely knitting group helping me out on Monday night. It's amazing how much more fun it is to re-skein yarn with friends and not alone! It feels a little less like a job, that's for sure.

Speaking of the fiber show, as mentioned, I'll be at the Vista Fiber Fiesta on October 13-14th from 10-4 in Vista, CA! There are a lot of great vendors this year, so if you live in the area, be sure to come on by!

This is what I've been working on like mad when I have any free time, which isn't much! I'm trying to finish at least one of the socks before the fiber show, so that I have an example of Witch's Brew knit up! The pattern is Simple Skyp Socks and they really are simple! I didn't even need to print out the pattern, that's how easy it is! I had it memorized after the first couple of rows (it's only a two row repeat). As mentioned, it is in my Candy Skein October 2012 colorway, Witch's Brew, which is on sale now through October 31st! You can purchase it here in Yummy fingering. I have to say, I know I'm bias, but I love love love this colorway. It knits up even better than I thought it would! These might become my favorite socks I've knit and I know I will be doing this pattern again at some point. It's a little like another favorite pattern of mine, Hermione's Everyday Socks, which I've knit a few times. So far, this sock fits like a dream (I did change the heel, but more on that when I finish the socks).

That's it from me today! I hope you have a great rest of the week and I'll see you on Friday, with (hopefully) the above sock completed!
